Jesus Christ: Just Who is Jesus?
Seeing that this matter has been debated for nearly two millenia, it is best that we let God’s Word speak for itself seeing He took the time to write it to us:
Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Jesus Christ is that one spoken of by the holy prophets as well:
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
During the very crucifixion of Jesus Christ – He taught us something. Not that He was weak and thought that God forsook Him, but rather that we ought to seek wisdom about who He is from the Old and New Testaments.
Matthew 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
A verse not easy for some to bear, no doubt, but was Jesus quoting? He was quoting Psalm 22, which was written nearly 1000 years before Christ paid the price for our sins. And this is what that Psalm had to say:
Psalm 22:1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Psalm 22:7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
Psalm 22:13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. 14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. 15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. 16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Psalm 22:18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Psalm 22:31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.
And so it is. We preach Christ crucified, whereby we have access to the Father of our souls and forgivness of our sins through this one called Jesus, the Christ. Amen.
If you feel lead or called to the sheepfold, where the good Shepherd watches over the flock, then call on you Father in heaven in the name of Jesus and repent. God bless you.
