Rightly Dividing the Word of God

Bible Study, Devotional

Rightly dividing the Word of God can mean the difference between spreading good news or blasphemy, so be thoughtful and careful of what you read, even that which is read to you.   Are you spreading the good news?  Paul talked some of this matter in his second epistle to Timothy on this wise:

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.” 2Timothy 2:15-18

There is no secret to the matter of a need to divide the word as the Holy Spirit of God from His prophet, leads.  Taking into account the rest of the Word, allowing the Holy Spirit to operate fully in your mind, bringing you to remembrance of past, present and future perspectives.

Common errors in Rightly Dividing the Word of God

Study the Bible DailyIt would be all too easy to list the vast array of erroneous teachings going on today as a result of improper dividing of God’s words of truth and not listening to God’s prophets, to the hurt of all!  Even worse yet, would be the potential for another stumbling block to be cast before you!

So then, what shall I say concerning these errors?  Rather than call then out, I rather call you out!

I call you to seek wisdom in the Word of God every day.  In your doing so, the need to list the vast errors of man becomes mute, and we can gladly move into practical ways to rightly divide the Word – so you can spot them on your own.

What is and how does one Rightly Divide the Word of God?

Now we’re getting somewhere!  Rightly dividing the word is no different than digesting a novel you love, so you know all of the angles of the characters.  It involves saturating your mind with the word of God, then seeking the Holy Spirit of God for guidance through prayer, fasting and meditation. Once the door has been opened, the process repeats, over and over. All the doors won’t open right away, though they could!  But, as our Father sees you humbly seeking after and knocking at the door of wisdom, He will naturally supply you when it comes time to reap the harvest of your labor!

More often than not, as you study the Word, you will run into stories, with characters that are indeed real, for their time, but also double as “types” or “patterns” for a prophetic, or future, time.  These “types” require particular attention – take note of them as you study God’s Word (you do that, right?).  Over time, you will develop a new sense of gravity in the words you read; a deeper connection to the meaning our Father intended.  All of course, as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Another simple application for dividing the word of God is just that, the word of God itself!  Search the scriptures diligently; truly become a student of our Father’s Word, and not of some other man.  You will, many times, find the answer to your confused perspective or situation in another verse of another chapter, perhaps even in another book altogether!  God’s word is like a pregnant vessel, bringing forth more and more as you labor in it.

The Whole Sum of the Matter

God is so wonderfully good to us, be reminded of the other scriptures you’ve read by revisiting them again.  Take hold on the whole armor of God, and rightly dividing the Word will come.  Most importantly, speak not of the things you know not – so none of us cast a stumbling block before his brother!

How to Study the Bible

Bible Study, Devotional

When you study the bible, in order to get the very most, you must realize two things.

  1. The bible is actually your Heavenly Father’s Love Letter to You for TODAY!
  2. The Spirit of G-d inspired the ENTIRE KJV Bible and will reveal His Truth to You!

With that knowledge and faith as the grain of mustard seed, be very clear about the fact that your understanding of the bible has nothing to do outside of you and the Spirit of G-d.  In plainer terms, don’t rely on anyone else for your understanding.   Not your preacher, teacher, pastor, deacon, mother, father, sister, brother… no, not anyone else, unless the be a real live prophet of G-d.  Let’s continue.

So how and where do I get started?

Study the Bible DailyAs with most literature, the best place to start is the beginning, Genesis.  Move right along, but most important – keep moving!  Every day, take whatever time you find reasonable to spend time in G-d’s Words to you and do it!  It’s truly that simple a process.  The complications arise when we find time with G-d’s Word to be an option and not a necessity.  Over time, the option becomes less desirable and we stray.

Whatever your amount of time is, spend – rather invest – it daily with your Father, in His love letter to you.

Be sure you don’t get all hung up on the minor details if it’s your first time through the whole bible.  Plug right along and as you meditate on what you’ve read the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal it .  Just like a farmer that sows seed, tends to it and eventually reaps the harvest, you too will be planting the seeds of G-d’s Word into your mind and tending to them by meditation and prayer.  The result being the wisdom of G-d which is, of course, the one thing He desires from us the most.

By the time you’ve built this into your daily routine and it becomes a habit, you will find that everything is easy and nothing is a challenge, except for keeping your heavenly Father in your mind.

What Translation should I Read?

The debate over translations is completely useless and irrelevant.  There are a core set of manuscripts and you must have a version that  lines up with one.  Ultimately, as you deepen and expand your depth in the Word, you will want to know what English terms are in the original dialect.  Many of the modern versions make that impossible, but there are a great many where this process is simple.

Naturally, we are all different.  Just pick the version that works best for you at the time and get going.  Remember, it’s the Spirit of G-d that reveals His words to you, not the writers.  The most widely used translation set here at Go Christ is the KJV, primarily for its style of writing and the ease of taking words back to the original text (mostly Greek & Hebrew) – for the deeper students.

How DO I Stay In the Bible Regularly?

Staying consistent in your daily time with your Father really comes down to you and your accountability, but there are a myriad of ways to keep the reminders coming.  The best option being face time with other, like minded Christians with similar goals – if not a number of “personal advisors”.

Spirit of God LeadsAnother great way to do this is experience the rest of the Body of Christ.  What do I mean?  It’s simple.  Do you know everyone in your church?  How about that church two blocks down the road, or that one across the street?  Once you get to Paul’s epistles in the latter portion of the New Testament, you will come to find that we are truly one body – many members, but still one body, unified by Jesus Christ.  We are critical to one another and we are called to love one another.  By doing so, we engage our Spirits and the Holy Spirit of G-d is present, leading the way of the conversation – if indeed we listen and watch.

You can also join small groups in your church or another local church to create and literally force the regularity and commitment, if you are having challenges in that area, but again, never let go of the fact that you are the one sailing your own ship in this ocean.  Make sure Christ is at the helm with you and all will be well!

If you are led to hear from the last day prophets of G-d, check our the Jewish Prophet website or the YouTube videos by Prophecy Club.

Let us know if this has helped you, encouraged or sparked something in your Spirit.  May the Spirit of our heavenly Father be poured out to those that love and seek Him.  In Jesus’ precious name!
