How to Study the Bible

Bible Study, Devotional

When you study the bible, in order to get the very most, you must realize two things.

  1. The bible is actually your Heavenly Father’s Love Letter to You for TODAY!
  2. The Spirit of G-d inspired the ENTIRE KJV Bible and will reveal His Truth to You!

With that knowledge and faith as the grain of mustard seed, be very clear about the fact that your understanding of the bible has nothing to do outside of you and the Spirit of G-d.  In plainer terms, don’t rely on anyone else for your understanding.   Not your preacher, teacher, pastor, deacon, mother, father, sister, brother… no, not anyone else, unless the be a real live prophet of G-d.  Let’s continue.

So how and where do I get started?

Study the Bible DailyAs with most literature, the best place to start is the beginning, Genesis.  Move right along, but most important – keep moving!  Every day, take whatever time you find reasonable to spend time in G-d’s Words to you and do it!  It’s truly that simple a process.  The complications arise when we find time with G-d’s Word to be an option and not a necessity.  Over time, the option becomes less desirable and we stray.

Whatever your amount of time is, spend – rather invest – it daily with your Father, in His love letter to you.

Be sure you don’t get all hung up on the minor details if it’s your first time through the whole bible.  Plug right along and as you meditate on what you’ve read the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal it .  Just like a farmer that sows seed, tends to it and eventually reaps the harvest, you too will be planting the seeds of G-d’s Word into your mind and tending to them by meditation and prayer.  The result being the wisdom of G-d which is, of course, the one thing He desires from us the most.

By the time you’ve built this into your daily routine and it becomes a habit, you will find that everything is easy and nothing is a challenge, except for keeping your heavenly Father in your mind.

What Translation should I Read?

The debate over translations is completely useless and irrelevant.  There are a core set of manuscripts and you must have a version that  lines up with one.  Ultimately, as you deepen and expand your depth in the Word, you will want to know what English terms are in the original dialect.  Many of the modern versions make that impossible, but there are a great many where this process is simple.

Naturally, we are all different.  Just pick the version that works best for you at the time and get going.  Remember, it’s the Spirit of G-d that reveals His words to you, not the writers.  The most widely used translation set here at Go Christ is the KJV, primarily for its style of writing and the ease of taking words back to the original text (mostly Greek & Hebrew) – for the deeper students.

How DO I Stay In the Bible Regularly?

Staying consistent in your daily time with your Father really comes down to you and your accountability, but there are a myriad of ways to keep the reminders coming.  The best option being face time with other, like minded Christians with similar goals – if not a number of “personal advisors”.

Spirit of God LeadsAnother great way to do this is experience the rest of the Body of Christ.  What do I mean?  It’s simple.  Do you know everyone in your church?  How about that church two blocks down the road, or that one across the street?  Once you get to Paul’s epistles in the latter portion of the New Testament, you will come to find that we are truly one body – many members, but still one body, unified by Jesus Christ.  We are critical to one another and we are called to love one another.  By doing so, we engage our Spirits and the Holy Spirit of G-d is present, leading the way of the conversation – if indeed we listen and watch.

You can also join small groups in your church or another local church to create and literally force the regularity and commitment, if you are having challenges in that area, but again, never let go of the fact that you are the one sailing your own ship in this ocean.  Make sure Christ is at the helm with you and all will be well!

If you are led to hear from the last day prophets of G-d, check our the Jewish Prophet website or the YouTube videos by Prophecy Club.

Let us know if this has helped you, encouraged or sparked something in your Spirit.  May the Spirit of our heavenly Father be poured out to those that love and seek Him.  In Jesus’ precious name!
